Possible keyboard bug. ver 6+ [SOLVED with build 047]

Post by Raa'Kaan » Fri Jul 15, 2011 8:39 pm

I have been noticing since changing to Slimbrowser 64bit that my computer now misses many input keystrokes on certain forums, yahoo e-mail, facebook etc. like, i'm guessing here, one keystroke per 10 keystrokes, and it is very random.

I am currenty using V6.00 build 042 but I have been noticing this since earlier versions.

To be fair, I'm not 100% sure this is a SB bug or not, but I'm reporting in case anyone else can confirm this behavior with certain sites.

I do not experience this bug when using other programs such as MS Word etc. only when typing online.

For the record, I have not experienced this issue using this forum writing this post.

I can confirm that something similar but maybe not exactly the same? for several versions beginning back with 5.01.xxx

I've not reported it on the forum (that I can remember anyway) because I was not sure how best to describe it or if it was attributed to SB. And I was waiting for more predictable symptoms. I think I did report it directly to flashpeak once.

I experience two types of symptoms which I think are caused by the same basic root problem.

What happens with me is that the text entry area, especially forums, loses focus while I'm typing and I have to click once or even twice in the text area to bring the focus back to it. This results in "dropped" keyboard entries in the typing area. I've thought more than once that it was a key combination that I pressed while typing fast. But I can't figure out what it might have been.

The second thing I've also experienced is where a forum text entry area that has a scroll bar will scroll away from the focus just as I'm about to type or have started to type. I then have to use the scroll bar to bring it back to where I have the cursor. Sometimes that takes care of it and sometimes it flicks back up again and I lose sight of the focus location again. A couple times it was so bad I had to copy paste to notepad and work there then copy paste to the forum in question.

With both types of symptoms I've had some luck reloading the page but that does not always help and it is not desirable as I'd rather not lose any text I've typed.

Also, I've not experienced either problem very often since I began using 6.00.xxx For a couple versions in 5.01.xxx it was rather severe.

So I have not been able to produce this problem. I do miss keystrokes while typing. But that is mostly because I didn't press the key hard enough when I type fast. That is, I touched the key but I didn't actually press it down. But I am fairly sure this is a real problem since I've got quite a few users reporting this problem.

Raa'Kaan , please confirm whether you experience losing-focus issue when you experience lost keystrokes. That is, the blinking caret is gone and you have to click inside the text box again to continue typing. If that is the problem, I will check in that direction.

I don't know whether you guys use alt key while typing inside webpages. If you only press ALT key and releases it, SlimBrowser will move the focus into the address bar in order to enable users to navigate the menu with the keyboard arrow keys (this is a particular multiple-process technical issue). Some non-US users use alt+shift to switch IME. It is possible they might hit ATL only sometimes.

I've put a testing version at this link: http://www.slimbrowser.net/tmp/sbsetup.exe (6.00.043) . You guys can install it. Then add the following two lines under [Settings] section inside the file "sbrowser.ini" under SlimBrowser Data folder while SlimBrowser is not running:

InterceptAcceleratorsInRender=0
AltMenuAccessInRender=0

After that change, start SlimBrowser again and try some more typing. Please let me know if anything changes.

holding the key in a forum text box you can see the Lag .
and again hold a key down in v6 for 5 seconds count the letters printed.or just watch the repeat you will see it Studder and lag.
then do the same in v5 .... you can even SEE NO lag or "studder"as the letter repeats .
and this has been tested by 123 people that i know.
hence if you type at a constant rate even as the Lag goes up you WILL drop Keystrokes .
version 5 this dont happen.
a txt doc is not a test that will show this .
go to yahoo search and use the search txt feild
or in facebook this holds to be true and constant.
version 6+ hits the system in more ways than watchen cup useage .

"I have not been able to produce this problem. I do miss keystrokes while typing. But that is mostly because I didn't press the key hard enough when I type fast."
was the Same reply you gave me ...
but HOLDING a key down to watch the repeat rate is a foolproof way of seeing Just what is going on plus watch the cpu useage at the same time.
and haven version 6 and 5 running and open at the same time Will NOT help
the test NEEDS to be on v5 ONLY
and THEN
on version 6+ ONLY

and its not my kb repeat rate as this would happen in 5 as well and it dont.

i can even post videos to show the lag and cpu useage on version 6+ and on version 5.
and you would see the repeat isue INSTANTLY ...
and i have myself tested this on 12 pc's here at the shop and 4 laptops.

No holding of key

Holding of key

Version 5 on my web page

Version 6 on my web page

you say to check my code hmmmmmmm "logic"
if it was code it would affect v5 AND v6 ,Chrome, Firefox and IE.
sofar all versions of 6 have done this and ONLY SB V6.
i am More than happy to help out as much as i can or as much as you will let me
as i have used SlimBrowser for a few years now and dont have alot of money so i feel that i shuld help were i can..............

radioman193, I've added you to a special user group so that you can have unlimited posts each day. The purpose of the limit is to prevent spam. I am sorry for the inconvenience.

Regarding the radioman.servehttp.com page, I got approximately the same CPU usage on three computers for SB6 and SB5. I ran them one by one this time. No difference.

For the keyboard issue, I got approximately the same repeat rate on two computers when holding down a key.

Could you paste your computer configuration information by selecting help->configuration information and paste it here or email it to me at support at flashpeak.com?

If you use some kind of instant messenger, we probably can have faster exchanges with online chat to help debugging this issue more quickly. I am available on gtalk, msn as flashpeak at gmail.com.

SB 6.00.045 should have solved the missing keystrokes issue. Please try it out and let me know how it works. Please also remove the following two lines from sbrowser.ini file since they are no longer needed:

InterceptAcceleratorsInRender=0
AltMenuAccessInRender=0

radioman193, I still have no clue about the CPU usage issue. It is perhaps also dependent on your system software configuration. Could you do a little test with Build 045?

First, open your radioman website. Watch the CPU usage and note it down. Then press ctrl+alt+shift+T. You will see a message: "event sink disconnected". Then watch the CPU usage again. Then press ctrl+alt+shift+T again, you will see another message "event sink connected". Watch the CPU usage. Please compare the CPU usage between when the even sink is connected and disconnected. Please make sure the event sink is connected before resuming your normal every day use of SlimBrowser. SlimBrowser will not fully function when the sink is disconnected. I just disconnect it in order to evaluate its effect on CPU usage.

well i dont know how your doing the Multi process in v6

but it looks like if you could use the "CORE" of v5.01.039 Core
and let it Render each page and be a seperate process it would work just sweet...

Example

My home page would call the v5.01.039 Core and be its own process.
this forum would call the v5.01.039 Core and be its own process
yahoo page would call the v5.01.039 Core and be its own process
Ebay page would call the v5.01.039 Core and be its own process

as i have found that v5.01.039 is very stable
it would be like changing your engine form a 82Hp 4 cylander to a 600hp V8 427 Hemi :shock:
