Making the Best Use of QuickFill Automatic Form Filler

Manage your subscription

QuickFill is probably the most popular feature among SlimBrowser users. However, you might not have taken full advantage of all the functionalities provided by QuickFill since it's such a powerful feature. We will talk about some advanced tips and tricks regarding how to make the best use of QuickFill in this article.

1. Quickly locate a saved form by searching from address bar

For users who have saved 50 forms or more, it might be slightly painful to locate the right form to use by digging through the long list of forms and folders from the QuickFill menu. A good alternative is to look for it by typing a few keywords from the address bar. For example, if you have a form file with the name of "My Yahoo Finance Account", you can type one or more keywords from the name in the address bar and all the forms matching containing the specified keywords will be listed in the auto-suggestion list. As you might see, all the matching bookmarks and history links will show up as well. If you want to limit the matching results to forms only, add the type prefix "openform" before the keywords, which makes it become "openform keywords".

After you have located the form you want from the suggestion list, select it from the suggestion list and press enter. SlimBrowser will automatically open the form for you.

2. View/change the password you have saved in a form file

If you would like to manually update the password within a form file, you can also quickly locate the form in the same way as explained in the previous section. After you have located the form you want from the suggestion list, right click on it and select "Edit Form" from the popup menu. In the "Edit Form" dialog, click the button "Form Data Editor" to open the form data editor. After that, click the button "Show Password" to view the password you have saved. You can change the password if you want.

You can also locate and edit the form via the Form Organizer dialog by selecting the menu "QuickFill->Organize Saved Forms".

3. Quickly fill a blank form with current identity information

The quickest and most straightforward way to fill a blank form with your current identity is to right click inside any text boxes within the blank form and select "Fill with current identity" from the popup menu.

4. How to sign out after clicking the "stay signed in" option?

Most people would check the "Stay signed in" option when they enter the master password to unlock the encrypted form files so that they don't have to enter the master password repeatedly. If you are using a shared computer, you might want to sign out before somebody else has access to the same computer. In order to do that, select the menu "QuickFill->More->Clear Cached Password" to clear the cached master password. Next time you open an encrypted form file, you will need enter the master password again.

4. How to log into two separate accounts from the same website at the same time?

First, log into the first account as usual by selecting the form file from the QuickFill menu. After, select the menu "QuickFill->more->Advanced Fill". In the following dialog, select the second account you want to log into by clicking the "Select Form" button. Also, check the option "Use Separate Session". After that, click OK and SlimBrowser will open the second account for you in a new tab using a separate session. One thing to keep in mind to get two accounts to stay logged in at the same time is NOT to use persistent cookies for the sites you are logging into. That is, if you see options such as "Stay Logged In", "Keep me logged in", "Automatically log me in upon next visit", be sure to leave them unchecked when you save the form files.

5. Setting the default account for a website if you have multiple accounts with it.

Now that you already have multiple accounts with the same website, let's say gmail.com. More often than not, one of them is your primary account ([email protected]) while the rest ones (such as [email protected]) are secondary and only occasionally used. Let's assume you have already created two separate form files for these two accounts. When you open gmail.com, you would like to have the login information for [email protected] automatically filled in by default. If you haven't define any default account to use for a particular website, SlimBrowser will auto-fill the first matched form file it finds, which might be [email protected] in this case. You can change the default account by right clicking inside the user name box on the Gmail login page and select "Fill with best match" from the context menu. After that, you will see a dialog listing all the matched form files. Select the item "[email protected]", check the option "Set As Default" in the dialog and then click OK. After that, next time you open gmail.com, "[email protected]" will be automatically filled. When you actually want to use "[email protected]", use the "Fill with best match" menu and choose it from the dialog but leave the option "Set As Default" unchecked so that the default account is not affected.
